The Tab Separated Text translator lets you open tab-delimited text files in Lotus® 1-2-3® for Macintosh®. This is the format in which most commercial spreadsheet and database programs create text files.
To make the Tab Separated Text translator available in 1-2-3:

• Copy the file Tab Separated Text to the 1-2-3 folder in the Preferences folder in your Lotus 1-2-3 folder.
To use the Tab Separated Text translator in 1-2-3:

1. Start 1-2-3.
2. Choose Open from the File menu to display a directory dialog box.
3. Pop up the Show menu and choose Tab Separated Text.
4. Select the name of the file you want to open, changing the current folder or drive if necessary.
5. Click Open.
1-2-3 opens a copy of the file as an untitled 1-2-3 for Macintosh document. The original file on disk is not affected.
Note the following about this translator:
• After you install the Tab Separated Text translator, 1-2-3 uses it for any text file you open, even if you choose Text from the Show pop-up menu. If you need to use the original text import translator, create a new document with the File New command and then use the File Import From command to import the text data.
• If the text document contained page break characters, the translator automatically inserts a new sheet in the 1-2-3 document for each page break.
CAUTION: Do not use the Tab Separated Text translator to open a document that contains more than 256 columns or 8192 rows.
